Garth Brooks isn’t the only person in his house with a new record deal and working to put out a new album.
Wife Trisha Yearwood announced Tuesday that like her husband, she, too, is preparing to release new music through Sony Music Nashville.
The difference: Yearwood revealed more details.
Yearwood’s new album is entitled “PrizeFighter” and will be the country singer’s first since 2007’s Grammy-nominated “Heaven Heartache and the Power of Love.”
“It’s a song on the album that is about beating the odds and winning and fighting no matter what,” Yearwood said of the album’s title track. “I think it’s a message we all need to hear.”
The Georgia native, who now splits her time between Oklahoma and Nashville, got her first record deal at 26 years old. She turns 50 next month, but said from the very beginning she looked at her career like a professional baseball player.
“I thought, ‘You know, these guys come out and they have their time. They have a few good years, and they have to know when they can’t swing the bat anymore,’ ” she said. “It’s been 23 years since that first single, and I’m just not ready to stop swinging the bat.”
In addition to the new album, Yearwood also is gearing up to go on the road with Brooks, who will kick off his Garth Brooks World Tour on Sept. 4 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., near Chicago. The couple will play 10 nights in the Windy City before pulling up stakes and moving the show to Atlanta’s Philips Arena to play seven concerts starting Sept. 19.
Yearwood has sold more than 15 million albums, won three Grammy Awards and has charted 19 Top 10 singles. But these days her fans might be just as likely to know her because of her work as a cook, which also is picking up steam again.
Yearwood, who has written two New York Times best-selling cookbooks — “Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen” and “Home Cooking with Trisha Yearwood” — will release her third cookbook, “Trisha’s Table,” in April. Season five of her Emmy Award-winning Food Network show, “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen,” will premiere Aug. 23; she recently signed on as a spokeswoman for Hellmann’s mayonnaise; and her cookware line, Trisha’s Precious Metals cookware with GreenPan, will be available on QVC in November and at Wal-Mart in the spring. Her line of cutlery with Furi also will be available in the near future.
“When I first signed a management deal with Ken Levitan many, many years ago and we talked about the big picture and all the things we wanted to do, as big as we dreamed, I couldn’t have dreamed all this,” she said.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, fans can catch a glimpse of Yearwood in action on QVC with her new pans on “In the Kitchen with David.” She will reveal her new product line on the network Nov. 12.
